Steve Curtis - Jahsiear Rogers’ Dismissal Leaves Oklahoma’s Young Receiver Group Thinner

Steve Curtis | October 8th, 2026

Oklahoma’s freshman receivers have barely been involved in its offense through four games. Now, the player who had received the most opportunities among them is no longer with the program.

True freshman Jahsiear Rogers has been dismissed from the team, according to SoonerScoop, which received confirmation from an OU spokesperson. The school provided no official reason. The outlet reported that Rogers missed team activities after likely becoming frustrated with his limited playing time.

His departure creates little immediate change to Oklahoma’s offense. But it leaves the Sooners with one fewer option in a young receiver group still waiting to establish itself.

Rogers played six offensive snaps through the first four games. Xavier “Zizi” Okwufulueze played two. Daniel Odom and Jayden Petit have yet to appear offensively.

Those numbers show how little responsibility Oklahoma has placed on its freshman receivers. They also show why Rogers’ departure is more consequential for the room’s development than its current rotation.

The Sooners have leaned on Isaiah Sategna, who leads the team with 20 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns. None of the freshmen has received enough playing time to become a regular part of the passing game.

That leaves Oklahoma balancing its immediate needs with the development of players it may need later.

A freshman doesn’t have to contribute immediately to become a valuable player. Practice repetitions, familiarity with the offense and physical development can all help build toward a larger role. For Oklahoma, keeping those options available matters even when they are not producing on Saturdays.

Rogers will no longer be part of that process.

The three-star prospect from Wilmington, Delaware, brought speed and athleticism to the room, but his departure leaves Odom, Petit and Okwufulueze as the remaining freshman receivers.

For now, Oklahoma’s offense will continue relying on the players already earning snaps. The larger question is how the Sooners develop the group behind them.

Rogers’ dismissal does not remove an established contributor. It narrows the group Oklahoma can turn to as it tries to build more of them.
